The meeting was called to order shortly at 5 pm

  • Minutes from the March 23rd meeting were approved as written.
  • Parks Update:
    • Linda reported that she adjusted the FY2023 budget request to include funds needed to construct the Harrods Creek Park Bridge.  It became clear that it will not be possible to complete construction by June 30.  Mayor Evans stated that he and a few council members visited the site with Ron and are supportive of the project.

We have a contract with OHM Advisors to secure permits required, bid support, and project coordination.

  • We received a proposal from OHM for recommendations and design for the Green Trail improvements and rebuilding of the Blue Trail stream crossing.  As the stream crossing doesn’t require sophisticated engineering, we decided to try to coordinate this project in-house.  We are waiting for a revised proposal for just the Green Trail work.
  • Some trail signs in Harrods Creek Park mounted on wooden posts have deteriorated over time.  Public Works personnel will mount these signs on metal poles.  While less aesthetically pleasing, the change will reduce maintenance requirements.
  • The FY2023 budget request includes replacing trail signs in Putney Pond & Woodlands.  Existing signs were essentially homemade and need to be upgraded.
  • This spring Linda will recruit volunteers to assist in removing invasive garlic mustard and poison hemlock.  We hope to continue professional invasive plant control using ICF again next fiscal year.
  • The first wildflower walk has approximately 10 participants, who thoroughly enjoyed the event.  The second walk will take place on April 24 at 1 pm in Harrods Creek Park.
  • We need to set a date to repair the gravel path from the Putney Pond & Woodlands parking circle to the woodland trails.  It should only take a few volunteers a couple of hours to complete the work.

  • Scout Update:
    • Lynn reported that Levi Lucas is very close to project approval.  Seth Jolly is still planning his project.
  • Lee Tucci reported that the Officer Timmons memorial tree in Little Hunting Creek Park will be relocated to accommodate the parking lot expansion and park development.
  • In a discussion of planning a celebration to make the 10th anniversary of the Harrods Creek Park opening, it was suggested that we time the event to coincide with the completion of the bridge project.
  • The next meeting will be on Monday, May 9 at 5:00 pm.  If the weather cooperates, we will meet in the Cowley Park Gazebo.
