Members Present:  Tina Beavin, Carolyn Embry, John Evans, Lynn Granger, David Holmes, Sallie Schneider, Linda Wardell, Chrisler White

Members Absent: Ron Cundiff, Doug Farnsley

The meeting was called to order at 5 pm.

  • The minutes from the December 11th meeting were approved as written.
  • The mayor asked Linda to remind committee members that the City Hall Art Show continues.  There will be a closing reception with a lecture by John Begley at 2 pm on Sunday, March 10.
  • Parks Update:
    • Plans for the Harrods Creek Park stream crossing bridge have been received.  Construction of the foundations will begin in the spring.
    • There will be a discussion of the Putney Pond Boardwalk with representatives from KIPDA and OHM Advisors.
    • Parks Programs
      • Nine children participated in the children’s craft program on January 27th.  The children made pinecone bird feeders.  After completing the craft, several children played in the children’s area of the library and read books to each other.
      • Following the craft program on January 27th, the first program of the lecture series was presented by Jacob Crider.  The topic was the geology of Kentucky.  Twenty-two people attended.
      • The next event in our lecture series will focus on Kentucky amphibians and will once again be presented by Jacob Crider.  Mr. Crider plans to bring live animals for the attendees to observe. 
      • The Pavilion Planning Committee is in the process of identifying the groups to be booked.  The plan is to have one program per month on Sunday.  David Holmes is leading the committee this year.
      • A new summer event is being planned to appeal to children and families which will most likely include a performance in the John Evans Pavilion with activities in the park.
      • The Harrods Creek Trail Bash will return in the fall.  The date will be Sunday, November 17.
  • ICF has started invasive plant removal in Putney Pond & Woodlands and Harrods Creek Park.
  • Scout Update—There is a scout interested in building the information kiosk for Little Hunting Creek Park.  He is in the process of writing up the project.  Lynn Granger has the lumber needed to repair the Eagles Way Boardwalk in Little Hunting Creek Park.  He will work with Chrisler to get the repairs scheduled.
  • Prospect is joining the Adopt-a-Highway program.  The first clean-up is scheduled for Saturday, April 6 in the morning.  8-10 adult volunteers are needed for this project.
  • Flower walks and bird walks are being planned this spring.

The next meeting will take place on Monday, March 11 at 5 pm in the Prospect Library.
