Members Present:  Ron Cundiff, Carolyn Embry, John Evans, Doug Farnsley, Lynn Granger, David Holmes, Sallie Schneider, Linda Wardell, Chrisler White

Members Absent: Tina Beavin, Stuart Miles

Others Present:  John Carter

The meeting was called to order at 5 pm.

  • The minutes from the October 2nd meeting were approved as written.
  •    Mayor’s Update
    • There was a meeting with KIPDA (Kentuckiana Regional Planning & Development Agency) to discuss grant sources to fund the Putney Pond Boardwalk Project.  We were encouraged to apply for funding from the Water and Land Conservation, or a recreational trails grant.  KIPDA can also assist in grant writing.
    • A contract for the construction of the Harrods Creek Stream Crossing bridge was signed on November 16.
    • The Sons of the American Revolution participated in the Veterans Day program, and they will be recognized at the December City Council meeting.
    • An exhibit of art by local artists will be on display at City Hall from January 14 through March 8.  There will be a reception on January 14.
  • Parks Update:
    • Parks Programs
      • John Carter reviewed the results of the Pavilion Programs Survey.  There is public support for continuing the summer concert series.  There was also support for having food trucks at the events, and programs for children.
      • John Evans reported that Shakespeare in the Park is scheduled to take place on April 28.  The program will be A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  He also said they are planning to get some sponsorships and will investigate advertising through the Prospect Area Chamber of Commerce newsletter.
      • Sallie reported that the next children’s program will take place in January in the Prospect Library.  The plan is to make pine cone bird feeders.
      • Sallie is also working with Linda to schedule some nature-centered lectures.
  • Volunteer Activities - Chrisler reported on the planting of the pollinator garden in Harrods Creek Park, his involvement in Arborfest and planting leftover trees, and the work done to improve the Putney Pond & Woodlands Trail.
  • Trail Improvement Projects
    • Linda will follow up with Grayson Shiprek about the planned stone steps by the first bridge in Putney Ponds & Woodlands
    • Some of the new Putney Pond & Woodlands trail signs have been installed.  Installation will continue as time permits.
  • Scout Updates
    • Michael Huber completed his Eagle project to place gravel on a washed-out area of the Blue Trail in Harrods Creek Park
    • Once Michael’s project was completed, some of the volunteers from Girl Troop 30 went to Putney Pond & Woodlands to complete the repair of the gravel path from the parking circle to the trailhead.

The meeting was adjourned at 6pm.  The committee will not meet in January.  The next committee meeting will take place on Monday, February 12, at 5 PM in the Prospect Library at City Hall.
