Members Present:  Tina Beavin, Ron Cundiff, Carolyn Embry, Stuart Miles, Sallie Schneider, Linda Wardell

Members Absent: John Evans, David Holmes, Lynn Granger

Others Present:  Don Gibson, Lee Tucci, Sandy Tucci

The meeting was called to order at 5 pm.

  • Minutes from the June 12th meeting were approved as written.
  •    City Updates (Mayor not present)
    • John Clark has been appointed to fill the City Council seat left vacant by the resignation of Don Graeter
    • Sandra Leonard has resigned as chair of the Library Committee
    • The mayor is looking at ways to fund the Harrods Creek Bridge project
  • Parks Update:
    • Parks Programs
      • Charlotte’s Playground in Little Hunting Creek Park was dedicated on June 13.
      • About 80 people attended the Oldham County Community Band concert on June 18.  Upcoming concerts include The New Louisville Jazz Ensemble in July, the Most Wanted Band in August, and the Sheryl Rouse Band in September.
      • Prospect Parks & Recreation’s first annual “Art for All” craft event took place on Saturday June 17th in Little Hunting Creek Park. 16 youth residents and approximately 15 adults attended and created colorful t-shirts.
      • Sallie Schneider is working to arrange a Prospect City outing to a Racing Louisville FC game in September.  A block of tickets will be available to city residents at a discounted price.
      • Carolyn Embry, with others is creating a pavilion booking event checklist.

 

  • Harrods Creek Park Bridge Project—Linda asked for committee members to speak in favor of the Harrods Creek Bridge Project at the next City Council meeting.  She will also contact non-committee parks supporters to speak.
  • Chainsaw Statue—Harley Dougherty began carving the statue on June 27.  It is expected to be completed in the next week or two.
  • Student Committee Member Recruitment--Tina Beavin created a student application form and instructions for submission.  The committee reviewed and approved moving forward to advertise the process.
  • Several Parks & Recreation committee members attended the table at the July 4th City Celebration.  There were few people who visited.  We will evaluate whether we participate in this event next year.
  • Linda noted that there is a need to correct and update the Prospect City website parks page.  She will work with John Carter to make the changes.
  • Park Improvement Projects remain as follows:
    • Putney Pond & Woodlands Path
    • Approach to new Putney Pond & Woodlands Bridge
    • New Putney Pond & Woodlands directional signs
    • Playground Rules sign

 

  • The meeting was adjourned at 6pm.  The next committee meeting will take place on Monday August 14, at 5 PM in the Prospect Library at City Hall.
