  • Minutes from the May 8th meeting were approved as written.
  •     Parks Update:
    • Parks Programs
      • The Little Hunting Creek Park Playground dedication will take place on June 13 at 4pm.  The playground will be named “Charlotte’s Playground” for the daughter of Sarah O’Dell who was instrumental in planning and building the playground.
      • More than 100 people attended the performance by The Ron Jones Quartet on May 21st.  This was the second program in the John Evans Pavilion.  Future concerts include the Oldham County Community Band in June, The New Louisville Jazz Ensemble in July, the Most Wanted Band in August, and the Sheryl Rouse Band in September.
      • The Art for All Tie Dye event will take place on June 17 at 10 am in Little Hunting Creek Park.  Those interested in volunteering should contact Sallie Schneider.
      • There will be a Flag Day ceremony on June 17 at 11 am in Cowley Park.
  • Harrods Creek Park Bridge Project—Bornstein General Contracting submitted the low bid for the project, which was just under $170,000.  Funding for the project depends upon whether it will be included in the FY2024 budget.
  • Chainsaw Statue—Harley Dougherty expects to begin carving the statue in June, weather permitting.  People are welcome to watch from the safety of the pavilion.
  • Tina Beavin contacted several schools about encouraging students to consider working with the parks committee for their volunteer hours.  The schools asked her to be in touch in August, closer to the beginning of the school year.  She suggested that we consider appointing a student as a committee member for a 1-year term.  With committee approval, Linda and Tina will draft an application and recommend a process for selection.  It was agreed that preference should be given to Prospect residents, but residency would not be a requirement.
  • ICF will be doing invasive plant removal in Harrods Creek Park this month to complete the current contract before the end of the fiscal year on June 30.
  • A draft of the KY Heritage Land Conservation Fund annual report was circulated to committee members in advance of this meeting.  Given that there were no recommended changes, it will be finalized and submitted before the July 1 deadline.
  • Members of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee will once again join members of the Forestation Board to talk to community members and invite people to volunteer.
  • The meeting was adjourned at 6pm.  The next committee meeting will take place on Monday July 10, at 5 PM in the Prospect Library at City Hall.
