The meeting was called to order at 10 am.

  • Minutes from the February 13th meeting were approved as written.
  • Mayor’s Update:  Mayor Farnsley discussed the storm damage to the parks and city.  He also commented on the success of the children’s craft program held in the Prospect Library.
  • Parks Update:
    • Little Hunting Creek Park Pavilion—There was damage to the roof in the recent storm caused by a large fallen tree branch.  The branches have been removed, along with the remainder of the tree. A portion of the trunk was left standing to allow for a chainsaw statue to be created.  The intention is that the artwork will reflect nature.  A local artist will be engaged to create the work.  A drain will not be installed in the pavilion.  Even if a drain was installed, it would likely still require some cleanup after major rains.  It appears that a lot of the water ponding on the pavilion floor is coming from the roof.  The pavilion builder suggested that diverters could be installed on the roof to reduce the amount of water entering the structure.  Water on the floor will be cleared in advance of events.
    • Little Hunting Creek Park Playground—Ron reported that the ground appears to be firm enough for trucks to deliver gravel for the foundation of the poured rubber surface.  Hopefully, the playground will be complete by the end of the month.
    • Little Hunting Creek Park Landscape—In addition to the plan for shrubbery around the expanded parking area, the Forestation Board has approved the planting of a number of trees near the expanded parking and the playground.  Bids are being secured for a concrete walkway from the playground to Fox Harbor Drive.  David Holmes noted that this expense should qualify for reimbursement under the Land and Water Conservation Fund grant which was awarded to the City of Prospect earlier this fiscal year.
    • Harrods Creek Bridge Project
      • All contractors who submitted bids are interested in participating to find ways to reduce the cost of the project.  Our consultant will set up a meeting with the interested parties.
    • Putney Pond Boardwalk Project—A proposal has been submitted to the KY Heritage Land Conservation Fund board for their approval.  The proposal will be discussed at their April meeting, and we should learn of their decision shortly after.
    • Parks Programs
      • The Children’s Craft Project, held on March 11 in the library, was a great success.  This event was attended by 7 children and their parents/grandparents.  The children had a great time, and we received many positive comments.
      • The next event is planned to be “Art for All” and will encourage people of all ages to create a tie-dye t-shirt. This will be an outdoor, on-the-grass event, probably in Little Hunting Creek Park.
      • Two spring wildflower walks are scheduled to take place in Harrods Creek Park.  They will be at 1 pm on Sunday, April 2, and 1 pm on Sunday, April 16.  Both will be led by Jacquelyn McGrail and assisted by Carolyn Embry.
      • John Evans announced that the first program to be held in the Little Hunting Creek Park Pavilion will be a Shakespeare in the Parks production of Hamlet on April 30th at 2 pm.  John reported that his program committee has a goal of presenting one program per month in the pavilion.
    • The Park/Facility Rental Application has been finalized.  Ron distributed copies to committee members.
    • Scout Update—The scout planning an Eagle Project to improve a trail in Harrods Creek Park has determined that they are unable to complete the project this spring.  It is hoped that another scout will be interested in this project.
  • The meeting was adjourned at 11 am.  The next committee meeting will take place on Monday, April 10, at 5 PM in the Prospect Library of City Hall.
