Prospect Forestation Board Virtual Meeting Minutes
September 13, 2022, 2:00 pm via Webex

Present:  Lee Tucci, Linda Knox, Connie Kuhn, Herb Schulhafer, Andrea Hanlon, Mayor Evans, John Carter, Ron Cundiff, Don Gibson, Marian Burton

The minutes from the August 9th meeting were approved with a correction to the next meeting date.

The Mayor described continuing progress on the Little Hunting Creek Park project and added that the work is expected to be completed in late October.  Forestation has been working with Parks and Recreation and the City to identify planting opportunities.  The Mayor asked that the group present a recommended plan for review.  Once finalized and approved, planting most likely would be in late November.

Andrea confirmed that LG&E has removed the two hazardous trees from the park, as well as hard-pruned two other trees.  Her recommendation was that these two remaining trees also be removed, which LG&E would do.  A motion for removal was made and approved.

She also advised the group that some of the requested trees for Arborfest were no longer available.  The updated offering will include Kousa Dogwood, Carolina Silverbell, Trident Maple, Ivory Silk Lilac, and Redbud.

Resident Marian Burton asked about tree removal on 42 near the Harrods Creek Overlook community and the possible installation of “industrial” street lighting.  Herb addressed her concerns that neither action was pending in the US 42 plans and offered to talk with her later on the subject.

Council member Sandra Leonard received a request from Sonia Leonhard at 5604 Timber Ridge concerning a tree she thinks needs to be removed due to the condition of the trunk (not visible from the street) and asked that Forestation inspect the tree.

The Mayor also asked that the group look at the trees on the southeast corner of Fox Harbor and Gunpowder at the stop sign.

Some additional trees requiring potential action include Hemlocks at 7105 Fox Harbor, and a Pine on the golf course on Hunting Creek Drive near Riding Ridge.

Plans for the Canopy Program were discussed, and the event will be moved to the spring.  This will avoid confusion with Arborfest and bring attention to tree planting during another time of year. Trees would be ordered in late February with planting in late March.  Communication about the event will begin after Arborfest and will offer suggestions like a significant tree as a gift.

The next meeting will be October 11th at 2 p.m. via webex.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:15 pm.

Respectfully submitted, Linda Knox
