Prospect Forestation Board Virtual Meeting Minutes
June 14, 2022, 2:00 pm via Webex

Present:   Lee Tucci, Linda Knox, Sylvia Quaye, Herb Schulhafer, Ron Cundiff, Don Gibson

The minutes from May 10th were approved.

The Mayor was not available for an update.

Several problem trees were discussed.

  1. 6500 Mount Batten Court – dead Pine.  Removal approved.
  2. 7105 Fox Harbor – 4 Hemlock trees with issues.  One tree was dead, unsightly but not large enough to be considered hazardous.  Two dead trees that are structurally unsound, hazardous and should be removed.  The fourth tree could be made safe by trimming the trunk down to 20-30 ft. or removal.  A remediation request for the 4 trees was approved and will be submitted for processing.
  3. 7008/7010 Fox Harbor Court, 7223 Fox Harbor Road.  Issues with trees were discussed and may involve City land and will be addressed separately later.
  4. Hunting Creek Estates – dead Spruce and Maple on Westover.  Removal approved.  The city will pursue when new budget money is available.

With the recent heat and lack of rain, the need for watering new trees was a key topic.  Between fall, spring, and memorial trees, 28 trees have been added to public spaces.  Regular watering in the first two years is critical to establishing healthy trees. The current Forestation budget does not have funds available for watering so potential sources for funding were discussed such as the Mayor’s fund.  A quote from Perez and Cortez for watering has been received.  Greenscapes will be asked for a quote.

The group felt it would be worthwhile to again share an information table with Parks & Recreation at the upcoming Fourth of July celebration.  Lee and Linda said they could be available.  Linda Wardell will be contacted.

The next meeting will be on July 12th at 2 p.m. via WebEx.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:41 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Linda Knox
