Prospect Forestation Board Meeting Minutes

Present: Lee Tucci, Linda Knox, Connie Kuhn, Herb Shulhafer, Andrea Hanlon, Mayor Farnsley, John Carter, Ron Cundiff, Don Gibson, Linda Wardell
Minutes from January 11 and 19 will be reviewed at the March meeting.
Mayor Farnsley commented on the new Art in Prospect program and shared that artist John Begley would be doing a presentation on March 10 at 2 pm.
Lee introduced John “Jack” Baggett from the KY Div. of Forestry. Jack shared some of his background, and appreciation for Prospect activities and his optimistic view of working with us.
Andrea reviewed some suggestions for a memorial tree for Linda Wardell’s mother to be planted in Little Hunting Creek Park, location and tree selection are to be finalized, with a tree being ordered with canopy trees.
She also said that the donated dogwood from Eco Tech had been planted in The Landing entry. She also noted that the crab apples on the right, entering The Landings needed the support straps removed.
The dead holly at the Hunting Creek Drive exit to 42 still needs to be removed.
There are also 2 dead Ash trees on Sutherland Farm Drive that should be removed, with a 3rd tree at 7912 Sutherland Farm Rd. needing removal. The board voted in favor of these removals.
City Hall received notification of a potentially hazardous tree at 9114 US 42. Andrea will be asked to view the location.
We have received no response from Chase Bank on our recommendations.
The Gunston Pine remains an open issue, as does the Black Cherry on New Bern Court.
There was a brief discussion on the Forestation ordinance concerning the importance of recognizing that injured, declining, or diseased trees may appear relatively healthy, but can still be hazardous.
Herb asked about Greenscapes re-mulching new trees. The mayor asked that we send a list of any concerns.
