Prospect Forestation Board Virtual Meeting Minutes
April 12, 2022, 2:00 pm via Webex

Present:   Mayor Evans, Lee Tucci, Linda Knox, Connie Kuhn, Sylvia Quaye, Herb Shulhafer, Andrea Hanlon, Don Gibson, John Carter, Ron Cundiff, Linda Wardell

The minutes from March 8th were approved with the following revisions: the date on the title should be March, not February.  Update on Olde Creek tree removal – removal was approved 2 years ago.

The Mayor brought up several new projects that are now possible with American Rescue Plan funds such as the playground for Little Hunting Creek Park, a new bridge in Putney Pond and a walkway from The Landings to City Hall.

Andrea told the group that the weather-delayed tree planting would happen in the next few days, and she would confirm with Lee.  She noted that the problem Ash tree at 7204 Fox Harbor had been resolved.  The dead Sweet Gum at 6804 Gunpowder has had some cleanup, but the large, remaining trunk is still hazardous and should be removed as soon as possible.

She also requested that the City trees on Timber Ridge near Kroger need mulch, edging and suckers removed from Crabapples.  A list of stumps waiting for removal has been sent to Ron.

In remediation, the following actions were determined:

  1. 6804 Gunpowder Lane: owner will be contacted again
  2. 7509 Hunting Creek Drive: owner contacted Lee and is questioning the need for the removal of 3 trees
  3. #30 The Breakers: letter on dead Elm was sent with no action after 45 days. The resident in the adjoining property is very concerned about the hazard. The board voted to have an additional notice sent imposing a $500 fine if the tree was not removed within 10 days.
  4. 6716 Deep Creek Drive: a survey will be needed to determine the owner
  5. 6500 Mountbatten Court:new, will be reviewed later
  6. Hunting Creek Drive:new, will be reviewed later

A tree designated in memory of Harry Hardin, one of the original Forestation Board members, is planned as part of the fall planting.  A $100 donation towards the plaque was made by Todd Eberle.  It is hoped use a location with good visibility so others would be aware of the many ways he helped the City.

Two trees in memory of Linda Wardell’s family members have been donated and will be discussed further with fall planting plans.

Lee said the tree plan for 2022-2023 was finalized and has been submitted to Council for approval.

Herb suggested getting photos of the new tree planting this week that could be used in the next newsletter.

With the new tree planting, we will start tracking rainfall to be prepared for times when the new trees may need watering.

The next meeting will be May 10th at 2 p.m. via webex.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:44.

Respectfully submitted,

Linda Knox
