Prospect Forestation Board Meeting Minutes
January 10, 2023, 2:00 pm

Present:  Lee Tucci, Linda Knox, Connie Kuhn, Sylvia Quaye, Herb Schulhafer, Andrea Hanlon, John Carter, Ron Cundiff, Don Gibson

The minutes from the December 13, 2022 meeting were approved.

The Mayor was unavailable.  John Carter shared that the new budget, with updated requests from Forestation had been given a first reading for approval.

Little Hunting Creek Park is nearing completion.  Greenscapes has presented an updated plan to the Mayor.  There are a Redbud and an Ash that Andrea said should be removed.  She also expressed concerns about how other trees in the area would show the effects of the drought and construction come spring.  Linda Wardell noted that there are differing opinions on the plantings that need to be taken into consideration.

There are two memorial tree plantings that are moving forward – both will be in Little Hunting Creek Park.  The Davis tree will be an oak.  A flowering tree is preferred by the family for the Wardell tree.

Prospect received approval to maintain its status as Tree City USA.  Materials from the National Arbor Day Foundation confirming the award should arrive in March.

New plantings for public areas were discussed.  Small trees in the Landings where spruce are failing and trees for the Fox Harbor medians were mentioned as possibilities.  The areas in consideration are both irrigated, a benefit to maintenance.  However, the areas tend to be shaded and can be wet.  Andrea will make recommendations on trees suited to those conditions.

The canopy tree information has been finalized and information has been in the newsletter with e-blasts planned to remind residents of the program.

The next meeting will be on February 22nd at 2 p.m. via WebEx.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:58 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Linda Knox
